CSU/SigEp Membership Requirements
Our Learning Community Commitment
At Colorado Gamma, academic excellence and personal development are core elements of our chapter culture.
Sigma Phi Epsilon is the only national fraternity built around a formal Live-In Learning Community model. Our chapter facility is designed first and foremost as a residential learning environment where members live together, study together, lead together, and hold one another accountable.
Living together is not about convenience or occupancy. It is how our chapter reinforces academic discipline, leadership development, mentorship, and a values-based culture grounded in the Balanced Man Ideal. The fraternity house is not simply housing—it is the center of our learning community.
Academic Standards
Sigma Phi Epsilon at Colorado Gamma maintains clear and enforced academic standards as a condition of membership.
The minimum high school grade point average for incoming freshmen to be eligible for membership is 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). The minimum cumulative college grade point average for continuing students is 2.8.
Members are expected to prioritize their responsibilities as students and to actively support one another’s academic success. Academic accountability is a shared responsibility and is addressed consistently.
Any member who does not meet the minimum academic requirement is placed on academic restriction and is not eligible to serve as an undergraduate officer or committee chair. During this period, the member is required to meet with the Chapter Chaplain and the Resident Scholar to develop an academic support plan and to work with an approved academic mentor until good standing is restored.
SigEp Learning Community
Sigma Phi Epsilon at Colorado Gamma operates as a Live-In Learning Community (LLC) that integrates shared residence, leadership development, accountability, and collaborative learning outside the classroom.
Daily interaction within the chapter facility strengthens brotherhood, reinforces expectations, and provides ongoing academic and personal support consistent with the Balanced Man Ideal.
Membership Agreement
All membership obligations are governed by the Colorado Gamma Membership Agreement, executed between the Member, their Parent/Guardian, and the Alumni and Volunteer Corporation (AVC).
The Membership Agreement defines expectations related to academic standards, participation, conduct, financial obligations, and the Live-In Learning Community requirement. Additional governing standards are defined in the Sigma Phi Epsilon National Bylaws, Colorado Gamma Chapter Bylaws, and Sigma Phi Epsilon Risk Management Policies, all of which are incorporated by reference.
Each new member and their parent or guardian are required to execute the Membership Agreement upon joining. All continuing members must reaffirm their commitment by reviewing and signing the Membership Agreement annually by October 1.

Live-In Learning Community Requirement
The Live-In Learning Community requirement is a condition of membership and is governed by the Membership Agreement.
As a condition of membership, each Member is required to complete two semesters of residence in the fraternity house, beginning with the first academic year in which housing capacity exists following initiation.
This requirement reflects participation in the Learning Community and is foundational to the SigEp experience. It is not a housing preference and does not depend on assignment to a specific room.
Waivers (Limited Exceptions)
Any exception to the live-in requirement is limited, discretionary, and subject to approval by the Alumni and Volunteer Corporation (AVC) through execution of a Live-In Learning Community Residence Waiver.
Waivers are granted only in documented, extenuating circumstances and do not negate the Live-In Learning Community as a foundational expectation of membership.

Non-Performance of the Live-In Requirement
Members who do not fulfill the live-in requirement during an academic year in which housing capacity exists, and who do not have an approved waiver, are subject to the Live-In Requirement non-performance charge as defined in the Membership Agreement.
This charge reflects the cost of non-participation in the Learning Community and is separate from chapter dues and parlor fees.
All live-in requirements, waivers, and related financial obligations are governed by the Membership Agreement and applicable Colorado Gamma and Sigma Phi Epsilon policies.
Substance-Free Housing
Colorado Gamma chapter facilities are substance-free. Members are expected to live in and support a substance-free residential environment.
The chapter house is maintained as a clean, quiet, and well-managed learning space so members can focus on academics, leadership development, and community. Social events are hosted in third-party venues to preserve the integrity of the learning environment.
Substances are defined to include alcohol, marijuana, tobacco and nicotine products (including vaping), and illicit or illegal drugs.
Expectations for Development and Involvement
Membership in Sigma Phi Epsilon carries an expectation of active participation, accountability, and continuous development.
Each member is expected to:
Engage fully in the Balanced Man Program, including completion of the Sigma, Phi, Epsilon, and Brother Mentor challenges
Participate in SigEp Learning Community seminars and collaborative learning activities
Contribute to philanthropy, community service, and service-learning
Uphold a culture free from hazing or unequal treatment
Comply with Sigma Phi Epsilon Risk Management Policies
Failure to meet these expectations may result in loss of privileges, suspension, or expulsion in accordance with governing bylaws.
