SigEp All Colorado Alumni Golf Tournament

Back in 1985 when Mike Pappas and Melton Karavites held the inaugural SPEcat golf tournament they had no idea it would bring brother from all the Colorado chapters together for the first time since the 1950’s.

The great thing about golf tournament is, it’s not just about getting with brothers from the different together, it’s really about supporting the cost of our young brother’s undergraduate experience. All the proceeds are donated to the chapter’s Learning Community Fund held in SigEp’s Educational Foundation and are used to fund chapter scholarships, local educational programming, and travel expenses for the member to to attend SigEp national leadership programs.

The tournament has grown over the years to include not only alumni from all the over Colorado and but many undergraduates brothers now play.

Michael Pappas, ’77 - Tournament Founder

Mikey was one of  Colorado Gamma SigEp’s most beloved brothers. Tragically he lost long battle to degenerative nerve disease in 2015. During his time in the house Mikey was always a willing and excited participant in every activity SigEp had to offer, and no one embraced SigEp values more than Mikey.

Building a strong tournament committee has been the key to the successful SPEcat tournament for the past 30 plus years. One talented and devoted person cannot handle everything alone. The key is having a strong group of dedicated brothers who are willing to contribute. We can thank them enough for all they do!

Below are the SPEcat Tournament Chairs and the vital roles they perform:

Dave Madden ‘79 - Tournament Chair Is responsible for building and overseeing all the fundraising. Secures donations to reduce tournament costs. And, responsible for the promotion, social media promotion/content, and SPEar Articles.

Tom Krause ‘88 - Event Chair Serves as liaison between committee and the host facility. Tom is responsible for event activities, he plans out the actual event, where it will take place and the day of the golf tournament and setting up the tournament banquet.

Jerre Dixon ‘67 - Volunteer Chair Is responsible for recruiting and managing all volunteers at the tournament. Oversees the check in and coordinate volunteers on during the tournament.

Rick Pilgrim ‘77 - Event Coordinator Is responsible for solicitation action items, handling the auction receipts and record keeping activites.

The awards luncheon, raffle, and auction have proved to be a big success. Many thanks go to our Master of Ceremonies - Jim Benemann ’78 as he always does an outstanding job auctioning the fabulous gifts donated by tournament participants.

This year’s tournament raised $6,500 for Colorado Gamma RLC Fund, bringing our seven-year giving total to just beyond $40,500! Thank you to all those brothers who participated with gifts and generous donations.
