CSU/SigEp Membership Requirements
ACADEMIC STANDARDS
The minimum high school grade point average for incoming freshmen to be eligible for membership shall be a 3.0 out of a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent). The minimum college grade point average for continuing college students to be eligible for membership shall be a 2.8 cumulative GPA.
In Spring (’24) our chapter GPA was 3.41, the highest GPA among the 21 IFC fraternities for last semester. 53 of 112 members maintained 3.5 GPA or higher, 12 of those members received perfect 4.0 GPA.
Any existing member who does not meet this requirement is on academic restrictions and shall not be permitted to be an officer of the undergraduate chapter or a committee chairman. During this period, he shall be required to meet with the chapter’s Chaplain and Faculty Advisor Dr. Todd Donavan to develop an academic support plan to improve his academic performance. He must also obtain an academic mentor approved by the chapter’s Chaplain and meet with his academic mentor regularly to review his progress.
SIGEP LEARNING COMMUNITY
SigEp is more than just a fraternity, it is also a Leaning Community that focuses on the academic success, living environment (chapter culture) and is responsible for facilitating the collaborative learning activities outside of the classroom.
Every Member is required to live in the fraternity house for a minimum of two semesters beginning in the fall semester of the following year they joined. Any exceptions to this live-in requirement will require the execution of the Fraternity House Live-in Requirement Waiver approved by the AVC. Members who do not fulfill their live-in requirement will be subject to an Empty Bed Fee as described in the Membership Agreement and if they do not executed Fraternity House Live-in Requirement Waiver face expulsion.
SUBSTANCE-FREE HOUSING
CSU/SigEp chapter facilities have been substance-free since 2001. Potential New Members need to want to live in a substance-free fraternity house.
It is our membership’s desire that the house be clean, quiet, and well-maintained. So, brothers can focus on their lives as students and enjoy the company of one another without having to worry about whether they’ll be able to study or sleep over the noise and distraction of parties. By moving social events out of our homes and into third-party venues, our brothers can more effectively use common spaces for studying, conducting Balanced Man Program challenge meetings, and hosting other events that will help attract and retain the kind of members and volunteers we are looking to engage.
Substances are defined to include alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, and other smoking materials including vaping, as well as illicit and illegal drugs.
MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT
Upon Joining every new member and their parent/guardian are required execute a Membership Agreement. The agreement is between the member/parent and the AVC, it ensures that new members and their Parent/Guardian fully understand the obligations and responsibilities of being a Member of the Colorado Gamma Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Further member responsibilities are outlined in the most current Grand Chapter Bylaws and, the Bylaws of Colorado Gamma, and the Sigma Phi Epsilon Risk Management Policy.
All current members are required to affirm their commitment to basic expectations of membership by reviewing and signing an Membership Agreement for the subsequent school year by October 1st of each year.
